An Introduction to the Artist Cheryl Dahn

As a young girl, Cheryl's artistic endeavors included summer vacations doing crafts and drawings with her grandmother. Through out her school years she would always include art classes as part of her curriculum, at the time not knowing what her career would be.

Staying with her love for art, Cheryl continued her studies and graduated with a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from the University of Rhode Island. There she learned the skills of drawing but it was the years to follow that lead her to the subject matter and the elements of light and composition that make her drawings what they are today. As a member of The Pastel Painters of Maine and the Art Guild of the Kennebunks, she has shown her work in a local gallery and at Maine festivals. After a brief "leave of absence" from her art work to raise her children she is now drawing again with a renewed excitement.

It is the places and experiences of her travels that inspire her subjects. Her landscapes are those places that have meaning in her own life and have special memories to her. Through her drawings she tries to convey a feeling of being right there in the scene and experience the mood and feeling of the moment. To make the drawing interesting, Cheryl looks for the best composition of the scene to capture one's interest. Partly realistic with a flare of impressionism, Cheryl's paintings give her a fun and exciting way to reflect life's journeys and transpose them on paper.
